Bellflower

$0.00

Cottage garden, clump forming perennial that preferes cool conditions.

Botanical Name: Campanula

Varieties we carry:

  • Blue Waterfall (spreading)

Seasons of availability: April and May, Limited.

Landscape Value:

There are many varieties of Bellflower, but the spreading variety Blue Waterfall is arguably the best variety to grow in the south. Most varieties suffer in hot humid conditions, but if given sufficient drainage and shelter from the heat of the afternoon, Bellflower can make a nice addition to the garden. Blue Waterfall typically grows about 1 ft tall and spreads. Plant it in mass or small groups to take advantage of its large showy blue flowers in spring to early summer.  It is at home in woodland borders and in rock or cottage gardens as an accent plant. This plant has few insect and disease problems.

Plant Care:

Plant in well-drained soil and in morning sun or dappled shade. Bellflower can be divided every three to four years in the fall to propigate and to prevent overcrowding. Hardy to Zones 5-9. Bellflower can be aggressive in some locations.

Ideal planting seasons: Fall and Spring.
