The size of Dianthus ranges from 6 inches tall to as large as 4 feet, but most perennial dianthus create short clumps that slowly spread. Traditional varieties bloom in for a few weeks in the spring, but some new varieties can re-bloom sporadically in milder temperatures.

Plant Care:

Dianthus prefers full sun, but can tolerate some shade. Dianthus can grow in different soil types, but well-draining soil is necessary to avoid root rot and fungal diseases. Removal of spent flowers can prolong the bloom period. After flowering is finished, it may be pruned back to accentuate the grass like foliage mat.
