Botanical Name: Nepeta

Varieties we carry:

  • Walker's Low

The following varieties may be available for special request: Junior Walker, Purrsian Blue, Cat’s Pajamas, Whispurr Pink, Chartreuse on the Loose

Seasons of availability: Spring

Landscape Value:

Catmint is an herbaceous perennial native to the Mediterranean region. With a clumping habit, it acts as a repellant for certain insects, such as aphids and squash bugs. Catmint is one of the most reliable perennials, and it may naturalize in some locations. Catmint is also an excellent alternative to the more difficult to grow Lavender.

Plant Care:

Catmint prefers full sun and good drainage. It is drought tolerant once established and not picky about the soil conditions it grows in. When flowers begin to fade, prune them off to encourage new growth and new flowers. Catmint’s spreading form makes it a good choice for meadows, naturalized areas, and cottage gardens. It works well in containers, planted along walkways, or nestled between rocks in a rock garden.

Ideal planting seasons: Spring and Fall
