Canna

$0.00

Heat tolerant, perennial tolerant of moist or dry conditions.

Botanical Name: Canna

Varieties we carry:

  • Cannova Series

Seasons of availability: Spring, sometimes Summer

Landscape Value:

Canna Lilies are perennial bulbs, native to East and West Africa and Central and South America. Depending on the variety, they can grow up to 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Most varieties available are dwarf varieties that reach 2 to 4’ hight and spread. Showy flowers bloom from July to October above tropical leaves in either green, striped, or burgundy.

Plant Care:

Canna Lilies can grow in a variety of soils, but prefer rich, well-draining soils with partial shade to full sun. Great drainage is preferred to prevent rhizome rot, but the plant will tolerate moist soil. Although it can survive in USDA Hardiness Zones 6-10, rhizomes can be dug up before the first frost and stored in a cool location in cooler areas or when used in containers. Plant canna in drought tolerant, rain, and water gardens. Place them near pools, walkways, containers, and ponds. They make great mass plantings to grow as hedges, backgrounds, or borders.
