Not to be confused with Tall Fescue or Creeping Red Fescue which are used for lawns, Blue fescue is primarily grown for its blue-green foliage as a clumping accent plant. Fescue is ideal for rock gardens, borders, and xeric landscapes in cool locations. This low-maintenance evergreen grass requires minimal watering once established except during very hot weather.
Fescue thrives in well-drained, sunny, and dry conditions once established and is hardy to Zones 4-8. Blue Fescue prefers cool conditions and tends to die out when grown in heavy, poorly drained soil. The clumps may require division every two to three years.
