Bearded Iris is an herbaceous perennial hybrid that arose from the Balkans. With thousands of cultivars, there is virtually every color and color combination in existance. The Bearded Iris has large, often fragrant blooms stretching as tall as 3 feet. Bearded Iris readily multiply, so they make a great addition to a cutting garden, mass planted in a naturalized area or woodland garden, in the middle of a border, or alongside a walkway or patio.

Plant Care:

Bearded Iris prefer full sun when planted in well-draining soil. Bearded Iris struggle in wet clay soils. Rhizomes should be planted at soil level or lightly covered with soil, but not heavily mulched. To encourage growth and blooming, fertilize in the early spring. Divide overcrowded patches in the fall to winter. They are quite drought tolerant and deer resistant.
